Bedruthan is awarded environmental accreditation ISO 14001
At Bedruthan Steps Hotel we have reason to celebrate this summer having been awarded the prestigious and internationally recognised environmental accreditation - ISO 14001!!!
We believe that we are the first independent hotel in the south west, if not the country, to have achieved this accolade, and we hope that our accomplishment will play a key role in further promoting the growth of sustainable tourism in the region.
The strict ISO 14001 standard is positive proof of Bedruthan's environmental commitment and compliance with all environmental regulations issued by the European Union, the British government, and local communities.
Last year Bedruthan appointed a full-time Sustainability Manager - the first hotel in Cornwall to create such a role - and obtaining ISO 14001 accreditation was her first target.
Ellie Dyer spent 6 months preparing the hotel for the rigorous auditing process and at the beginning of July felt ready for the two-day inspection from the auditing body QMS. Expecting to be given a list of improvements to undertake, we were overjoyed when we were told we could receive our certification on July 31st. All the staff have been working towards ISO
14001 for a long time and we're so pleased that they have achieved recognition for their efforts.
The hotel will now be assessed annually to ensure the continued adherence and development of our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
We hope that our achievement encourages other tourism businesses in Cornwall to aim for ISO 14001 - we have proved that it is possible!
